La Maison du Père is not only concerned with the well-being and residential stability of men who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. It facilitates access to employment for the men who seek its help, thanks to the links it has forged with partners in the public, private and community sectors.
The Father’s House employment assistance program is divided into five components:
- Job preparation
- Pre-employability
- External employability
- Legal Services
- Schooling program
JOB PREPARATION
To facilitate the job search of participants in social reintegration, the Maison du Père offers support in updating resumes and cover letters, preparing for interviews, advising on job search techniques, referencing, and more.
PRE-EMPLOYABILITY
In partnership with Emploi-Québec, La Maison du Père offers the PAAS Action program for men undergoing social reintegration. Thanks to this program, participants can benefit from a government allowance for additional support, while reintegrating into the workplace and progressing on a sociopersonal level. Several work platforms are available: kitchen, laundry, checkroom, building maintenance and goods reception.
EXTERNAL EMPLOYABILITY
La Maison du Père works closely with a number of organizations, including Travail sans Frontières and the Société de développement social, to enable men who so desire to gain work experience. This takes the form of one-off work contracts (2 to 4 months). It has also developed alliances with the private and public sectors, including a partnership with the Quartier des spectacles.
LEGAL SERVICES
In collaboration with the Clinique Droits devant, the Maison du Père is able to offer legal assistance to people enrolled in its social reintegration program. We help them find out the status of their legal situation, and support them in their efforts to regularize their situation through compensatory work or payment agreements.
SCHOOLING PROGRAM
With the help and expertise of Sarca’s counselors, participants in the Maison du Père’s social reintegration program can design a training project and an action plan for a return to school. Throughout their project, they receive the support and information they need to reach their goal: assessment and recognition of prior learning, examinations, career guidance, individual counseling. These services are offered jointly by the Réseau de la formation générale des adultes and the Réseau de la formation professionnelle.
For more information about our employability programs, please contact Maryse Delisle at (514) 845-0168 ext. 301 or by e-mail at maryse.delisle@maisondupere.org.
